2-round mock draft: Giants get a QB of the future, 49ers make an all-time fun pick
Welcome back! Here is another mock draft for you to hate on. This time it's two rounds.
With just two weeks remaining in the NFL regular season, it is firmly mock draft season. The New York Giants pick first with a need at quarterback, the San Francisco 49ers make a fun pick, and more in this week’s edition!
The 2025 NFL Draft is almost near as the Reese’s Senior Bowl, East-West Shrine Game, the NFL Scouting Combine, and more are next up on the list. So how does the draft board sit as Week 17 is already well underway with Christmas Day games and Thursday Night Football completed?
You’re lucky! This time, I went the extra mile and did a two-round mock draft. You can’t make a dent in team needs with just a first-round pick, so why not give each team an extra round?
So let’s dig in here. I hope you hate your favorite team’s picks.
1. New York Giants: QB Shedeur Sanders, Colorado
The Giants need a quarterback and if we’re being honest there is only one worth the squeeze this year. The Giants get Shedeur Sanders and Malik Nabers rejoices.
2. New England Patriots: CB/WR Travis Hunter, Colorado
The Patriots have needs elsewhere, but they cannot pass up taking the best overall player in the draft. Now they have a formidable duo in Christian Gonzalez and Travis Hunter, who can also give them 15 snaps per game offensively.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars: CB Will Johnson Jr., Michigan
The Jaguars are hoping Travis Hunter falls to them. But he doesn't here, so they take the next best cornerback on the board in Michigan’s Will Johnson Jr. to add a much-needed top-tier player to their secondary.
4. Tennessee Titans: WR Luther Burden III, Missouri
With a ton of needs on an aging roster, the Titans are not in the position to take a quarterback. This could be a team that gets in the market for Aaron Rodgers, so they get him a target here in Luther Burden III. Not the receiver you expected? He’s my WR1 so why not slot him first in this mock draft?
5. Cleveland Browns: DT Mason Graham, Michigan
Just take the best player available. Mason Graham is a blue chip player still on the board, so the Browns pair 2024 second rounder Mike Hall Jr. with Graham to add youth to a defensive tackle room with a ton of aging veterans in it. That defensive line with Myles Garrett just got a whole lot harder to block.
6. Las Vegas Raiders: QB Cam Ward, Miami
Cam Ward is not a first round quarterback, but he has first round tools. That will make a team get desperate in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Raiders are desperate for a toolsy quarterback in a division with Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert.
7. Carolina Panthers: EDGE Abdul Carter, Penn State
The No. 2 player on my board, the Carolina Panthers are getting a steal here with the seventh overall pick. Needing to make massive upgrades to their pass rush situation after trading Brian Burns and with the Jadeveon Clowney signing now working out, they get Penn State’s Abdul Carter.
8. New York Jets: EDGE Shemar Stewart, Texas A&M
Haason Reddick finally decided to suit up, but he is a free agent at the end of the season. Despite having two other first round edge rushers on the roster, it is still a need for the Jets. Shemar Stewart enters the NFL as a high-end run defender with perhaps the highest ceiling in the entire draft class.
9. Chicago Bears: OL Will Campbell, LSU
Operation Protect Caleb Williams is underway as the Bears take the first and best offensive lineman off the board in this mock draft. Who cares if he’s a tackle or guard, the Bears need both.
10. New Orleans Saints: EDGE Mykel Williams, Georgia
For the record, this is much higher than I am personally on Mykel Williams. However, the Georgia edge rusher is built like an alien and is going to test off the charts at the NFL Scouting Combine. The NFL is going to love his upside, and the Saints take that shot here to round out the top 10.
11. San Francisco 49ers: RB Ashton Jeanty, Boise State
Christian McCaffrey has been the catalyst for the 49ers’ offense for the last three seasons, and it has not been the same with him dealing with a season-long injury. While the guaranteed money on McCaffrey’s contract make him uncuttable in 2025 (nor am I advocating to cut him), it might be time to plan for life after as he nears the age of 30. This is an all-time fun fit.
12. Miami Dolphins: OT Josh Simmons, Ohio State
Despite a season-ending knee injury, Ohio State’s Josh Simmons is one of the few offensive tackles in this class with the necessary foot speed to hang at tackle at the NFL level. Planning for life after Terron Armstead and with needs all over their offensive line, the Dolphins take the athletic Buckeye stalwart.
13. Indianapolis Colts, TE Tyler Warren, Penn State
If Chris Ballard is still the general manager in Indianapolis, and if Tyler Warren is on the board when they pick, then the Penn State standout and Mackey Award-winner is going to be a Colt.
14. Cincinnati Bengals: WR Tetairoa McMillan, Arizona
Replace Tee Higgins with the man most compared to Tee Higgins. Sometimes it’s as easy as that.
15. Dallas Cowboys: WR Emeka Egbuka, Ohio State
Brandin Cooks has remained productive, but he is aging so the Cowboys need to find CeeDee Lamb a new running mate. Ohio State’s Emeka Egbuka can be just that. He’s crisp, clean, and refined, making his transition to the NFL a relatively short-stringed one.
16. Arizona Cardinals: OT Cameron Williams, Texas
Jonah Williams and Kelvin Beachum have started at right tackle this season for the Cardinals with subpar success. Getting a young and athletic right tackle to bookend with Paris Johnson Jr. is the move for a relatively young team with upside. Cameron Williams fits the bill.
17. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: S Malaki Starks, Georgia
The Buccaneers need help in their secondary and they get the best player available here. Safeties always get pushed down the board, and that is to their advantage. Some even think that Malaki Starks may be an even better cornerback, another need for the Bucs.
18. Seattle Seahawks: LB Jihaad Campbell, Alabama
Mike MacDonald was successful in Baltimore with one linebacker who could hammer downhill and another who could play with range. Assuming they re-sign Ernest Jones after trading for him at the deadline, they’ve got the heavy-handed linebacker set. Jihaad Campbell’s coverage ability and sideline-to-sideline range check the other box.
19. Atlanta Falcons: EDGE Nic Scourton, Texas A&M
Oh no, here go the Falcons taking another first round pass rusher. This time they take a 20-year-old with a ton of upside. Despite his youth, Texas A&M’s Nic Scourton already has a great deal of nuance to his pass rush plan under his belt as well.
20. Houston Texans: OL Kelvin Banks Jr., Texas
Many project Kelvin Banks Jr. as a guard at the next level, myself included. The Texans have leaked along the interior of their offensive line all season. The Outland Award winner helps with that immediately.
21. Los Angeles Chargers: RB Kaleb Johnson, Iowa
Jim Harbaugh wants to run the football and address any area of his team that could make them a more physical threat. JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards just are not reliable in terms of their health, so the Chargers draft the second running back in this first round in Iowa’s Kaleb Johnson.
22. Denver Broncos: TE Colston Loveland, Michigan
Sean Payton found his Jimmy Graham on a team that desperately needs a high-end receiving tight end. Colston Loveland can play in-line, in the slot, and even as an X. He fits right in with the Broncos, who only like pass catchers who are massive in stature (Marvin Mims excluded).
23. Los Angeles Rams: LB Jalon Walker, Georgia
Ernest Jones anchored the Rams’ defense for three years before being traded this offseason by being a downhill force to muddy up the A-gap. Here the Rams draft an edge rusher being projected to move to off-ball linebacker full-time at the NFL level in Jalon Walker to do the same thing.
24. Washington Commanders: OT Josh Conerly, Oregon
Protecting Jayden Daniels must be a priority for the Commanders this offseason. Selecting Oregon’s athletic offensive tackle Josh Conerly is exactly their way of going about that here. While Conerly is still not a polished product, he has taken a massive stride forward, is young, and has the athletic ceiling of a Pro Bowler.
25. Pittsburgh Steelers: CB Shavon Revel Jr., ECU
The Steelers might boast the worst starting duo of cornerbacks in the NFL. They address that massive hole on their defense with their first round pick by selecting the ECU standout Shavon Revel Jr. While Revel’s season ended in September with a torn ACL, he’ll be ready to roll by minicamp.
26. Baltimore Ravens: OG Tyler Booker, Alabama
Just take the best offensive lineman on the board here regardless of position. That’s what the Ravens do here to upgrade their right guard situation by taking Alabama’s Tyler Booker. If they re-sign Ronnie Stanley, that offensive line becomes ready to roll.
27. Green Bay Packers: DT Derrick Harmon, Oregon
Just three years removed from selecting a first round defensive tackle, the Packer dip their toes back into that well. While Devonte Wyatt has had back-to-back seasons with five sacks, they need youth and depth. Derrick Harmon fits the bill fresh off of a breakout season with the Oregon Ducks.
28. Philadelphia Eagles: EDGE James Pearce Jr., Tennessee
The Eagles have never been scared off of players who may fall down draft boards for reasons that have nothing to do with talent on the football field. James Pearce Jr. was once seen as perhaps the best player in the draft class. Now, the Eagles could get a draft day steal. They do here in this mock draft.
29. Buffalo Bills: DT Walter Nolen, Ole Miss
The Buffalo Bills need to get Ed Oliver a running mate. And while Tyleik Williams and Kenneth Grant are immovable objects along the interior, both players lack upside as a pass rusher. Despite some consistency flaws and a hot-and-cold motor, Walter Nolen put it together this season with the Rebels. That’s the direction the Bills go here.
30. Minnesota Vikings: S Nick Emmanwori, South Carolina
Harrison Smith is getting up there in age and is a free agent after the season. Camryn Bynum is also a free agent after the season. After missing on a first round safety in Lewis Cine, the Vikings return to the well here with the sure tackler Nick Emmanwori.
31. Detroit Lions: OG Donovan Jackson, Ohio State
Kevin Zeitler is a free agent and Graham Glasnow is a replaceable player. Here the Lions make a very Lions-y pick and address the trenches before it’s an issue. They do that by making Donovan Jackson the second Ohio State offensive lineman off the board in the first round.
32. Kansas City Chiefs: OT Jonah Savaiinaea, Arizona
Even after selecting Kingsley Suamataia in the second round a year ago, the Chiefs need to address the offensive tackle position again. Even if that means moving off of the young tackle already. Trey Smith is also a pending free agent after the season on an offensive line that is already highly paid. Arizona’s Jonah Savaiinaea can play either tackle or guard.
