Shavon Revel Jr. scouting report: 2025 NFL Draft profile on the talented East Carolina cornerback
While the standout cornerback had his season cut short due to injury, he has first rounder written all over him in this draft class
East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. enters the 2025 NFL Draft as one of the more interesting prospects.
Revel took the junior college route out of high school, attending Louisburg College from 2020 to 2021. He suffered a fractured skull after a car accident in high school, worked as an Amazon warehouse worker during the COVID-19 pandemic, and now suffered through a torn ACL this past September after entering the season with top-15 grades in the class.
And all of this has led to him being a potential first round pick in just over a month. Adversity is nothing for Revel and he looks to continue to prove that at the NFL level.
But what does the tape say after a standout 2023 season before his final year was cut short? Let’s break down Revel’s 2025 NFL Draft in this scouting report:
Measurables
While Revel did not test at the NFL combine as he continues to recover from a torn ACL (he’s expected to be ready for training camp this summer), he did measure in:
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 194 pounds
Arm Length: 32 5/8”
Hands: 9 5/8”
Lower Half Tools
While Revel plays a bit high-hipped at 6-foot-3, he shows the ability to get his hips flipped fluidly when he needs to break on the football. Triggering downhill, it takes Revel an added step to get his weight shifted to change directions.
He has long speed for days over the top of the defense as he can turn and run vertically with any receiver across from him. Revel is a long strider and possesses a ton of linear explosiveness and transitional burst.
Man Coverage Ability
Revel is a savant in press technique. Not only does he have exceptional length to jam any receiver across from him off the line of scrimmage, but he leads with the feet and mirrors well. Using the boundary as his friend, Revel has the physicality to escort receivers to the white lines.
He's a pest who cannot be shaken in trail technique. Working down the field Revel can get a bit grabby. Any team looking for a Cover 1 and Cover 3 bully will love Revel.
Zone Coverage Ability
Working in Cover 2, Revel must squeeze out honey holes by pushing vertically until he is threatened underneath better. In quarters and Cover 3, Revel is well-equipped to stay deep down the field with anyone.
Revel will be a bit green when learning a ton of Cover 4 and match concepts that he has not been asked to do. While Revel knows to peel off backside when he isn't threatened, he is a tick slow to get his eyes there.
Ball Skills
While there are some reps where Revel has struggled to locate a backshoulder throw, he is typically on time getting his head around to find the football. When he does locate the football, he is well-equipped to go up and high point to snatch it out of the air.
When Revel cannot get his hands on the ball he has a long track record of ripping through the hands of receivers.
Run Support
Working in run support, Revel keeps blockers at bay with his tremendous length, but needs to work hands out of his frame with more physicality. Revel shows no fear working in run support either, sticking his nose into contact any opportunity he gets.
He missed just three tackles in all of 2023, and just one in the three games he played in 2024. Revel is as reliable as a cornerback can come in the run game. Revel plays through the whistle.
Overall 2025 NFL Draft Grade for Shavon Revel Jr.
Revel comes out as one of the best cornerbacks in the class for me. While he tore his ACL in September of 2024, he is on track to start training camp full-go. Some teams might not like his age, entering his rookie season as a 24-year-old, but there is no doubting the tools of Revel at his size.
I gave Revel a mid-second round grade, and in this class is good enough for him to be a fringe top-20 player in the class. He did not test as he continues to work his way back from his torn ACL injury, but his athletic upside is evident on tape.
Revel finishes as my CB4 behind Colorado’s Travis Hunter, Michigan’s Will Johnson Jr., and Florida State’s Azareye’h Thomas.
